Emergency medical services ambulances issues Research Paper - 1
Emergency medical services ambulances issues - Research Paper Example This technique is costly to apply when selecting EMS technology. Assessment and selection of efficient and cost effective information technology devices have been some of the issues affecting emergency medical services in the recent times. Transmitting medical information directly to a hospital can help save time, money and more importantly save a patientââ¬â¢s life. The advent of onboard mobile gateway (oMG) wireless system from In Motion Technology British Columbia, Canada has made it possible to equip vehicles (ambulances) with computing devices that are able to communicate with each other in and outside the vehicle, using wired and wireless technology (Rich, 2012). The system being a multi purpose built communications processor minimizes proliferation of wireless accounts, radio modems and antennas by enabling local area network (LAN) devices to share assets with wide area network resources. The system is also self regulating thereby reducing the need for dispatchers since it can automatically sense, assess and select the best available network to provide a back up should the primary network fail. The central medical emergency dispatch (CMED) system is mostly suitable for voice communications. oMG has mobile da ta capabilities such as biometrics, LPR, and e-ticketing which provide officers with greater access to information in the field. With such tools and many more, officers do not have to radio a dispatcher to obtain information about vehicles or suspects. Secure, wireless wide area networking transit fleet operations are enhanced by the powerful oMG communications platform. All systems aboard an ambulance i.e. video surveillance, CAD/AVL etc are allowed access to multiple garage area and wide area wireless networks. This platform solves communications problems of health care professionals by providing a multi network environment with full access to

Star Alliance in the field of Marketing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Star Alliance in the field of Marketing - Essay Example Alliances were an appropriate response to the market change by the leading airlines. Star Alliance is the largest with a market share of 23.6 percent followed by Sky Team, Oneworld and Wings (Czipura & Jolly, 2007). This paper will discuss how at Star, the benefits are reaped both by the customers and the airlines, the route setup and the basis, the problems and pitfalls encountered and how Star Alliance differentiates itself from other airline alliances. The Star Alliance started as a joint marketing effort between United Airlines and Air Canada in 1992 and was formed on the premise that each could derive benefits from expanding the range of cooperation. They wanted to increase the membership and devolve authority towards a more centralized and independent organization structure (Anslinger & Jenk, 2004). By 1997 Scandinavian Air System (SAS), Deutsche Lufthansa, Thai Airways International had joined the alliance. These five members signed bilateral agreements regarding code sharing, joint marketing activities, and flight schedule coordination (Czipura & Jolly, 2007). The alliance wanted to exploit the benefits of a worldwide network. By 2006, there were 18 full members in addition to several regional members and member candidates. Today it has 24 members and has a centralized set of activities and functions. The Star Alliance serves 855 airports in 155 (StarAlliance.com, 2007) countries and expects to achieve substantial savings thr ough rationalizing their operations and in the process squeezing out competitors (Boyd, 2001). Airlines have little control over fixed expenditure like aircraft and equipments and the labor costs account for almost one-third expenses in the industry. As such most airlines are looking for saving expenditure in other areas. In 2001, Star Alliance created a new and more stable management structure. Prior to this, the alliance was driven by the individual

Booker T Washington and W.E.B bois Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Booker T Washington and W.E.B bois - Essay Example In addition, the need for change within the society should be presented effectively (Moore 56). Through examples and similarities, it is easier to build the case or idea and be able to influence the decision of the audience. In the two speeches presented to different audiences, it is evident that the success of presentation of the idea is in the speech by Du Bois. The speech by Du Bois is a true reflection of the challenges faced by the black community. Therefore, the speech by Du Bois is much better compared to the Booker Washington Speech. Effective speeches are meant to inform and inspire the public to be engaged in the change or improvement of the society. In the two speeches, the focus has been on the African American. In fact, conclusion of the speech makes it delightful and ensures that the audience understands the importance of speech and the need for action (Moore 123). The creation of the problem is done in the introduction passage effectively in the speech presented by Du Bois, which is different from the focus of the Atlanta speech. The Atlanta speech presents the issues using a system that ensures that the idea is not grasped accuracy. In fact, the ideas are not presented as fast as it should be in an audience speech. In addition, the focus of speech is presented much later. The presentation by Du Bois touch on the imperative issues associated with immigration and the need for integration of immigrants. However, the challenge of race is not addressed effectively in the Atlanta compromise. The compromise is not effective in presenting the solution to the problem. For a speech to be effective, it should bring out the challenges associated with race and conclude with the speakerââ¬â¢s perception and take of the challenge. For Du bois, the challenge and the conclusion is presented effectively in the speech, but Atlanta compromise does not present the ideas effectively. Speech presentation and

Entrepreneurial Leadership Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Entrepreneurial Leadership - Essay Example Case (2010) identifies three Pââ¬â¢s (people, passion and perseverance) as the key ingredients of a successful entrepreneurship. He said that the presence or absence of the three Pââ¬â¢s in the right mix can lead to success or failure as an entrepreneur. His successful steering of AOL has been contributed to these 3 Pââ¬â¢s by him (Case, 2010). However, the failure of merger of AOL with Time Warner was a result of incorrect focus on the 3 Pââ¬â¢s. The merger resulted in cultural clash of employees and hence they were focused on their personal issues rather than the innovations. The passion that was earlier present in AOL employees was lost in the huge merged enterprise and finally perseverance was hit hard because people lost their belief in internet and they stopped investing in innovation. Another thing lacking in the deal was ââ¬Å"vision executionâ⬠. A great idea rebounded because the 3 Pââ¬â¢s were not rightly focused on ââ¬Å"executingâ⬠the vision (C ase, 2010). Kouzes (2008) talks about five leadership practices which help in motivating people to perform at their best. Thus, he also focused on people and showed how great leaders inspire them to arouse perseverance and passion in them. The five principles are ââ¬â having a clear vision of what is required so that the employees understand what is expected of them and they move accordingly, setting example by doing what is being preached, challenging the current state of affairs as status quo never inspires people to perform at their best, enabling others to act in line with the vision by understanding the motivation factors of a team or individual and encouraging the heart by rewarding exemplary performance (Kouzes, 2008). Drucker (2007) distinguishes between entrepreneurial strategies and entrepreneurial management. The first strategy is that of being seen as the undisputed leader in the market. Strategies are for external markets and can be used alone or in combination with others. It is the riskiest but pays the most if successful. This is what AOL tried to do by merging with Time Warner. Other strategies involve ââ¬Å"creative imitationâ⬠, ââ¬Å"entrepreneurial judoâ⬠and finding a specialized ââ¬Å"ecological nicheâ⬠(Drucker, 2007). This gives rise to entrepreneurial leadership where leaders operate in dynamic market conditions and transform the inconsistency and dynamic character of the market into opportunities (Tarabishy, Fernald and Solomon,). He is capable of using different strategies or a combination of them to establish his product/ service or company in the current environment. The entrepreneurial leader should have a clear vision, communicate it well and then help his people execute it. Types of organizations and leadership styles Organizations can be classified into different types depending on their size, culture, decision making authority and design etc. An organization which follows top-down communication, has very rigid rules, is bureaucratic in authority and has very narrowly defined tasks is called a ââ¬Å"Mechanist Organizationâ⬠(Kinicki, 2007). On the other hand an ââ¬Å"Organic Organizationâ⬠is flexible, with open communication networks, flat hierarchical structure and employees who perform variety of tasks and not just the specific ones (Kinicki, 2007). Decision making in such organizations is de-centralized and middle and lower level managers have more control over various decisions. For transformational leaders, an organic organization is best
The Methods of Data Collection and Analysis Term Paper
The Methods of Data Collection and Analysis - Term Paper Example A researcherââ¬â¢s expertise, knowledge, and thoughts influence the research to a large extent.à There are several situations in which qualitative research is more suitable such as to gain better understanding of lesser know phenomenon, or gather more information or new viewpoints. Since there are no standardized methods of qualitative inquiry practitioners usually follow a generally accepted sequence of steps. The first step towards designing qualitative research is to ascertain the focus of the study and the objectives which should also be able to justify the need for a qualitative research paradigm. This is followed by the identification and location of the sample group and size. Data collection, recording, interpretation strategies and timeline also need to be planned ahead. Sampling in qualitative research is mostly done through purposive method so that a specific population is targeted to receive in-depth information and build a case study. Purposive sampling is also of many types such as snowball, convenience and needs to be decided according to the objectives of the research. Data collection techniques in qualitative research usually employ interview focus group discussions and observation methods as well as the secondary review of available data. Inter views are open ended and can be in the form of informal conversations, semi-structured or standardized interviews. On the other hand, observations provide rich data about respondents in their natural settings. It allows the researcher to interpret a lot of information about the subjects without them even being aware of. Observations also allow the opportunity to record verbal and non-verbal cues in given settings, situations and among other people. At times, a researcher may also become a participant and get involved in the groups activities to gain insider knowledge about he subjects, especially when studying cultures. In addition to conducting first hand interviews and observations, review of documents, reports, notes or published data effectively supplements data collection efforts. Literature review also forms one of the first steps to gain more understanding of the area that needs to be researched.

Virtue theory and abortion Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Virtue theory and abortion - Essay Example I strongly support the idea that abortion is the best option for Rebecca. It was mentioned earlier that the theory of utilitarianism considers an action to be right if the chosen action can provide a person the best consequences that can make the person happy (Hursthouse 225). Since both persons are only 22 years of age, it is given that both Rebecca and Tobias are not ready to settle down and have a child. This brings out the question, what would really make Rebecca happy in life? Is it becoming a single mother? Or being able to pursue her career as a human rights lawyer? Abortion, based on the theory of utilitarianism, seems to be the best option for Rebecca. It was mentioned in the given case study that the relationship between Rebecca and Tobias were not based on sincerity and true love; but more on just sexual desires and pleasure. For this reason, continuing the pregnancy may not be the best action that will make Rebecca happy. Aside from not feeling ready to start a family, Rebecca refuses to raise a child without a husband to support her either financially or emotionally. The problem with Tobias is that is guy, given the young age, is also not determined or responsible enough to face his personal obligation as a father to Rebeccaââ¬â¢s unborn child. Therefore, it is close to impossible that Rebecca would be able to raise the unborn child with Tobias. On the contrary becoming a human rights lawyer is what will make Rebecca happy in life. Therefore, it is just right for Rebecca to decide on having an abortion. Opponents can criticize my personal point-of-view using the theory of deontology. Basically, the theory of deontology considers an action to be right in case it strictly follows the basic moral principles of God or as required by the natural law (Hursthouse 234). In general, one of the common principles of God includes the idea that it is morally wrong to kill people. Within the

How medical care important during war Research Paper
How medical care important during war - Research Paper Example Most of them were not qualified. Over 10,000 surgeons had served in the US army. At that era of 1860s, it was a huge tragedy. Medical knowledge had not been addressed as uses of sterile dressing and antiseptic surgery was not used. As a result, most of them died due to diseases. Also, intestinal dysentery complaints such as dysentery were common as it claimed many lives than those caused by wounds (Anne 66). The Medical care has made many transitions dating back to civil war days. The research identifies the significance made by medical care sector through innovation made in that period. In this context, the research features the medical care employed initially and improvements made at recent times. The breakthrough has been suitable in the current wars. A variety of essentials of medical care necessary in battlefield will be reviewed closely. The importance is associated with a variety of innovations made. Medical care is essential in the war fight for any eventuality that comes with the scenario. Ensured sanitation and hygiene-this are inherent in military medicine in order to reduce the number of casualties by avoiding of non-combat related issues among military personnel especially in the prevention of disease. It encompassed the prevention of communicable diseases, promoting of personal hygiene that has ensured free supply of water food sanitation, as well as administered waste disposal. It is achieved through controlling, preventing and combating insect borne diseases such as mosquito, fleas and other insects.
